About the only band in the world not to release their music on iTunes are The Beatles. I’m pretty sure they are the only band that has sold millions of albums that isn’t included on iTunes. When it was announced that The Beatles were finally releasing their music digitally on December 8 of 2009 I think most people probably guessed that it meant that their music was going to be available but that is not true, instead The Beatles USB will contain The Beatles entire 1960s stereo catalog.
The Beatles USB memory stick contains The Beatles Stereo Box Set except clearly in a much different form than DVD and 16 CDs. This one USB flash drive that you can easily hold in your hand includes all of the same elements as the much larger box set.
It actually contains all of the remastered Beatles stereo tracks in the box set twice because it holds both 320kbps mp3s and 44.1kHz/24bit FLAC files. I’m certain you have experience with mp3s (and the 320kbps mp3s in this USB are of very high quality) but what about the FLAC, what what is FLAC? Simply put FLAC files are “lossless” and this means there is no loss in sound quality like there is with mp3s. And since these particular FLACs are actually 24bit instead of the 16 bit files that are contained on CDs, they are of better sound quality than compact discs.
What this means is that The Beatles USB memory stick now contains the best quality versions of The Beatles stereo remasters! Of course, that may change if they decide to release these remasters on Blu-Ray or DVD but for now this is the holy grail for audiophiles as far as The Beatles stereo remasters.
How about the original mono mixes? Sadly these are not contained on this USB flash drive. You still have to get The Beatles Remastered Mono Box Set to get those mixes.
