What Are The Advantages Of Using VoIP Over ISDN?

VoIP lines are a relatively new phenomenon which is being utilised by people for their home, their business and even their mobile. VoIP phone systems can be used in place of the more common ISDN lines that we’ve been utilising for generations. But why switch from your standard ISDN line to a VoIP line?

There are several key reasons and advantages to using a VoIP system, especially for those running a business. Probably the biggest benefit is the dramatically reduced cost associated with the VoIP lines (probably the main reason they’ve become so popular). The cost of line rental with a VoIP phone is considerably cheaper (up to 60% in some cases), the cost of calls is reduced and phonecalls to other VoIP users is usually completely free of charge.

There are also no charges for adding extra lines (or removing them), making the system very appealing to business users.

There are some distinct advantages for businesses too, regardless of the size of the company. As well as having unified communications throughout your business, and can also give outsiders the impression that you’re far more developed than you actually are. Rather than being fixed to a specific area code for your group of numbers, you’ll be allowed to add as many numbers as you like using any area code, meaning you can present the illusion of having offices in numerous different locations. These aren’t restricted to the UK either, as you can have overseas dialling codes, or go for an 0845 premium number.

The other major benefit to VoIP is the ease of which you can move over phone numbers. Let’s say your changing over from ISDN to VoIP, keeping your old number is no problem, meaning you don’t have to worry about missing important business calls (or those thousands of business cards you gave out with the old number). Once you’ve actually moved over to VoIP, there is no physical connection between your line and your number, meaning you can take calls to the office when you’re a hundred miles away. It also makes it far easier to move office should you ever need to, as you won’t have to change any of your business numbers.
