European Dynamics (Greece)
European Dynamics (ED) will act as the project manager capitalizing on its
long involvement and expertise in European projects (Telematics, ACTS,
TEN-TELECOM, Inco-Copernicus) as well as on its daily interaction with its
client organisations in the framework of European tenders. ED will also
contribute in the technical design and implementation phase of the
project. ED's contribution in this area will be extremely valuable since
it will bring to the project the awareness and expertise gained from the
DSIS-IRC project that has developed an "Information Resource Centre"
for providing services over a groupware WEB environment. European Dynamics
will also bring its expertise in e-commerce technologies, including tools
and technologies for e-shop generation/e-payments/e-security/user
authentication mechanisms.
University of the Aegean (Greece)
The University of the Aegean (UoA), due to the distributed nature of its
campus, has long been an active investigator and proponent of Internet
collaboration, and tools that support it. As with most other universities,
it is also interesting in student learning taking place over the Internet
as well as in the traditional setting. The interest in design for all
arises from the need to cater for not only their academic community of
researchers and learners, but also the support community of
administrations and technical personnel. This represents a wide range of
users for whom Internet collaboration is an essential work tool. The
university works hard to provide services to its users, so that for
instance, their desktop is accessible to them, from whatever computer
located on whatever island campus. It recognises that design for all
benefits all, not least those with some form of disability. This partner
will perform development and dissemination activities, and will be
responsible for the technical management of the project.
Fraunhofer-Institut fur Angewandte Informationstechnik (FIT.HEB)
The Fraunhofer-Institut fur Angewandte Informationstechnik (FIT) (Fraunhofer
Institute for Applied Information Technology), formerly known as FIT
(German National Research Center for Information Technology, Institute for
Applied Information Technology), has a top-range staff of about ninety
researchers, technicians, students, and administrators. They represent a
wide range of skills and nationalities, including computer scientists,
engineers, mathematicians, economists, sociologists, and psychologists. It
has three main research lines: Social Web, Human Enabling and Information
Contextualization. The TEDIS Group (Technological Enabling of Disabled and
Older People), part of the Human Enabling Research Group, is directly
involved in the IRIS project. Our mission is to develop information and
communication technologies in order to enable disabled and older persons
to lead a self-determined life and to facilitate their equal participation
in the social and economical activities of the society. Current research
and development focuses on Computer-Assisted Therapeutic Intervention
environments for physically and mentally impaired children (CATI),
Barrier-Free Internet and Web Accessibility, Health Telematics, User
Modelling, and Cognitive Training by Animated Pedagogical Agents (TAPA),
among others. Our staff is member of several Working Groups of the World
Wide Web Consortium's Web Accessibility Initiative (WAI) and of the
Working Group on User Interfaces for All of the European Research
Consortium in Informatics an Mathematics (ERCIM-UI4ALL).
UPV-EHU (Spain)
The University of the Basque Country, and specifically the academic
researchers in the Laboratory of Human-Computer Interaction will bring to
the project its long expertise and experience in the research and
development of computer systems for people with disabilities. The
university of the Basque Country will be responsible for the phases of
user requirements and identification of recommendations for enhancements
of Internet services, will have significant contribution to the evaluation
phase, as well as coordinating the participation of the subcontracted
member, ISdAC International Association, in those phases and the
evaluation.
ISdAC
ISdAC (Information Society disAbilities Challenge) International
Association is a non-profit International Association established since
1998 under the Belgian law in accordance with the Law of October 25th
1919, modified by the law of December 6, 1954, with the approval of the
Ministry of Justice. ISdAC, includes members, which are citizens of
several countries across Europe and extensively use ICT to interact with
each other. The member's experience from previous involvement in R&D
European projects will act as a user test-bed to assess the overall
accessibility of IRIS products towards the disabled constituency. All
ISdAC members are People with a Disability, possessing relevant skills in
order to be able to deliver qualitative input and feedback. ISdAC will
contribute its valuable experience and feedback primarily at the phases of
user requirements and evaluation.
