How Does A Web Hosting Server Actually Work?

Many people just take web hosting for granted. Once they are using something that actually works they do not feel they need to pay it any more attention. The only thing they need to think about is the fact that others can find their website after the web host has placed it on the web. Other people are more curious and are interested to know how a server actually works.

How a web server works

The easiest way to explain a web server would be to say that it is a computer that is used to serve pages onto the internet. When a visitor wants to view your website they make contact with your server which will then send the pages to the visitor’s computer. Of course the persons wishing to do this does not have to search out your server and send an email request for your page. This whole process goes on without the visitor being aware of it and it should really happen quite quickly.

There is a unique address for every website and this is stored as the IP address. Only the number of the IP address is read so it really doesn’t matter what name you give to your website. The server for the IP address that someone is looking for is contacted by the browser when you search for a particular website. Once this is done the server should then send the data needed for the browser to place on the computer of the visitor. So the real truth of the matter is that the website actually visits us instead of us visiting the website.

So the server of the web host should be ready and able for any requests that might come its way regarding your website’s IP address. But it is likely that every single web host will experience downtime at one time or another. Your data can be viewed by anyone around the world by using your IP address.

Anybody thinking about venturing into internet marketing should have web hosting dealt with beforehand. But the world of web hosting can be confusing. For example, you may come across reseller web hosting or even linux web hosting on your travels.
