November 2004 saw World of Warcraft hit our shelves and is now almost 6 years old. Even though it’s now an oldie, it’s still increadibly popular. Coming to our shelves shortly will be the third expansion, history dictates that this will be successful like its predocessors. The expansion will introduce many new features, far more than the previous expansions and will allow people to fly in old areas, also more wow macros.
Wows userbase has grown so huge over the last six year, no other game has come close to touching it. There have been many successful MMOs over the last 6 years, but none of them to the extent of wow. Wow is completely dominating the market, many have come and gone in its time. The new star wars MMO is set be a possible wow beater. The Old Republic already has a large fan base from the star wars franchise and successful games development company.
Some people have complained that world of warcraft is getting too easy and a lot of the difficult parts of the game have been removed. The developers know that if they have a more accessible game, they will make more money from subscriptions!
Loads of people are no playing the browser based game called Farmville, this is because of the Facebook boom. This simple game is a possible threat to the way future MMOs will be developed. Little time is required for games like Farmville, but current subs based MMOs require quite a lot. MMOs of the future could be more like Farmville, as it is setting future expectations of the genre. Younger players of the MMO genre are less likely to play the current formula of subcription based MMOs. Rogue Macros.
